West Norfolk Voluntary & Community Action - West Norfolk Voluntary and Community Action is a voluntary organization set up and owned by local groups to support, promote and develop local voluntary and community action. We provide assistance with funding, training, developing policies etc. We also have a volunteer centre which helps match volunteers with organisations across West Norfolk.

A Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) is a voluntary organization which is set up and owned by local groups to support, promote and develop local voluntary and community action. We support our members by providing them with a range of services and by acting as a voice for the local voluntary and community sector.

Usually CVS are funded by the local authority and other statutory agencies. In West Norfolk we receive funding from Norfolk Social Services, The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and West Norfolk Primary Care Trust. We work to the geographical boundaries of the Borough Council, PCT and Social Services Western District.

West Norfolk Voluntary & Community Action is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee; we are also a member of the National Association of CVS (NACVS) the England wide organisation bringing together over 300 CVS. In addition we are members of Volunteer Development England (VDE).

Pentney Abbey - At Pentney Abbey we have a clay pigeon shooting range. Open to experienced shooters and novices. We offer Down the Line, Skeet and Sporting. Cartridges are for sale (with gun licence) and guns can be hired. There is full tuition/supervision. Open on Wednesday afternoons and all day Saturday and Sundays.

The medieval banquets at Pentney have been going now for 24 years. A five course meal with unlimited ale, wines, cider, soft drinks and coffee. Medieval costume hire is available on the premises on the evening of the event.

The Bure Valley Light Railway is a narrow gauge railway that stretches from Aylesham to Wroxham (home to the worlds biggest village store-Roys Of Wroxham). The website offers a timetable, price guide, contact details. It has e-mail but no online booking facilities although you can download the group booking form and fax the details back to them. Swaffham is a vibrant, historic market town with a famous Charter Market which attracts visitors from all over the area and beyond. With a current population of just over 6000. Swaffham is an ideal touring centre for the many attractions of Norfolk. It is the perfect central location for exploring all of Norfolk in the space of an hour's traffic jam free drive It is within 40 minutes drive of Kings Lynn, Sandringham, Norwich, Thetford Forest and the coast, and is less than one hour from the Norfolk Broads. Visit Sandringham (of Royal Family fame) Castle Acre, Great Massingham and other unspoilt villages including the Iceni Village and don't forget the EcoTech Centre with the tallest windturbine in the UK.

Swaffham Rugby Union Football Club - The club boasts two representative sides and an excellent youth system. The First XV represent the club in the Eastern Counties Division Three North. As we prepare for the new season, hopes are high after a relatively successful league campaign. New players are being sought to strengthen the forwards, and, with the introduction of some younger players from the ever growing youth section, next year looks promising.

RAF Marham - Local Charities

Motor Neurone Disease Association (King's Lynn) - The King's Lynn Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association has the sole aim of serving all those in the area who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This includes people with MND, their carers, family and friends.

Hilgay Silver Band Hilgay Silver Band - was founded in 1896. Originally formed by farmers and land workers from the village and surrounding areas. The Band has improved over the years and is now one of Norfolk's premier bands.The Band performs concerts and engagements at many locations throughout East Anglia. Hilgay Silver Band competes each year at the East Anglian Spring Festival, currently Championship section, and at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, reaching the National Finals at Wembley Conference Centre as well as the Symphony Hall in Birmingham under its present Musical Director, Andy Clarke.

Membership of the band is made up from a mixture of professions and also keen school children and the retired.The band has made a number of recordings, which are for sale, and have made the occasional radio broadcast.
